2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 620 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 10 trips to carry that many people.

Running in 2014

Banner2014

What a year of running 2 Marathons, 10 Half Marathons and 9 other distances for a total of 21 races for 2014. This year I achieved my Disney Coast to Coast Challenge by running the WDW Marathon in January and the Disneyland Half Marathon in August.  I’ve entered other challenges, the inaugural Remix Challenge in the Chicago RnR series which I ran a 5K and then the next day the Half Marathon.  I entered the Chicagoland 29.3 Challenge, which I ran the Chicago Spring Half, Chicago Michelob 13.1 and the Chicago Half Marathon.  The third challenge I entered was the Disney Dumbo Double Dare, which was held over the Disneyland half marathon weekend which you ran a 10K and the next day you run the Half.  Each challenge gave me an additional medal.  I am a sucker for the medals.

If I had to categorize the running this year it would be the following:

Favorite Medal: WDW Marathon – They redesigned the medals and I really like how they did this one
Favorite Non-Disney Medal: Fort 2 Base 11 Nautical Miles – It was a big medal that had one side representing the Army and the other side representing the Navy
Favorite Race: WDW Marathon – Being a Disney Freak I really enjoyed running through the parks, all the photo opportunities, got to ride Expedition Everest, and completing my first marathon!
Worst Race: Chicago Half Marathon – I like this race and course, but I was not prepared, we just arrived back from our vacation the day before and I didn’t train properly that week.  I was physically tired during the race.
Best T-Shirt Swag: The Disneyland 10K – it featured Stitch and it was nicely designed
Race that you run again: The Chicago RnR Half – I really liked the course, although it is in the middle of summer and very hot, the run through the city is one of the best

This year I was able to see my relatives more than I have in the past years.  Got to run with my cousin in the Disney races that I signed up for this year.  I entered new courses, some that I would do again.  I mooned up within the Half Fanatics, I am no longer stuck in Uranus!  I’ve met a few runners that I keep in contact through social media.  I’ve seen quite a few friends start running and some that have joined me in the races this year.  Most of all this running has kept my blood sugar in check and have kept me healthy.

I don’t know how my race schedule will be like next year, but I know that I don’t have one in January or February…I just don’t like training in the snow and cold!

Thank you for following and reading my blog!  Stick around for 2015 and see where my feet take me!

Santa Hustle 5k

For my last race of the year I walked this race. Our friends joined us for this leisurely walk that started at soldier field. From there we went south and there was a cookie station, water station and a candy station.

Going south it wasn’t too old, but when we looped back from the turnaround the wind picked up and it got cold. It was fun walking with other people in Santa clothes and festive outfits.

When we finished we were given milk and cookies and they had a couple reindeer in a pen.

This was fun and a nice addition to out holiday festivities.
