Proud to Run 10k

June 25, the run was part of the weekend’s festivities for Pride and it offered a 10k run and a 5k walk or run. This was the 35th anniversary of the run and the had a new medal designed for the run.

We arrived at Montrose Harbor where the 10k was to start at 8:05. Before they had us line up they read the names of the victims that died at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, then they played the national anthem.

There were no corral placement, so we just gathered by the start line. When they released us we ran north up to Foster beach then they had us loop back by running along the lakefront path. We ran south down past Irving Park Road and just before we were at Belmont they turned us around to head back north h to the finish.

Since this race started a bit late the heat started to rise. The course did not have much shade so the sun was really bright and it got pretty hot. I definitely need to continue my training to get back into running shape for my upcoming races.

I finished in 1hr 20min 51sec definitely not my best time. We hung around for awhile because they had a raffle, which the numbers were our bibs. They had a exhibition of rescue dogs that went through obstacles, which was actually pretty fun to see. They also had the Spirit Brigade perform, which was quite interesting.  They had Mike Quiggley talk along with the sponsors, then they had the raffle.  Unfortunately I didn’t win anything, overall it was a good race and fun people.
