Disneyland’s Captain America 5k

The first race to kick off the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon weekend was this 5k that was Captain America themed. This year they started giving real metal medals for the 5k’s in the RunDisney lineup of races.

This was also Rick’s first participation in a RunDisney race. We woke up real early to get to corral C before the kick off of the race at 5:30 AM. Before they released the corrals they had the Captain to welcome the participants. They welcomed us, had the national anthem and then started releasing the corrals.

We started made our way on Disneyland Drive and turned into the service street of California Adventure where they brought us to the side of Cars Land right by the Radiator Springs Racers. From there they took us through Bugs Land and through Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, Grizzly Peak, Condor Peak, a little part of Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land before they had us exit to the back lot streets and enter Disneyland.

We entered Disneyland by Space Mountain and we saw Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. We went through the castle and up Main Street and just before we exited the park we were greeted by Spider-Man, which I was wondering if he was going to make an appearance this year.

We exited Disneyland and made our way through Downtown Disney to the finish line. We finished the race in just over 1 hr. We were awarded with the retro Captain America Shield medal and took our finisher photos.

There were characters photo ops with Captain America, Black Widow, Hawk Eye and Thor. Their lines were ridiculously long, so we just took selfies with them and with the mile markers. Since we just got married the day before we had “Just Married” bibs on our backs. It was a hit and got lots of compliments. We took photos with the Cars Land backdrop, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, the Storytellers statue, inside the tea cup and of course the castle.

It was a nice tour around the park and was even better experience that I got to complete it with my newly married husband Rick!

11/18/16 Update: RunDisney released the finisher certificates!
